Steps for Revalidating Studies 👉

Procedure for basic education: elementary and high school

1The procedure is carried out at the Dirección General de Planeación, Programación y Evaluación Educativa (Río Rhin, No. 9, Colonia Cuauhtémoc, Delegación Cuauhtémoc), Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

2The following documentation is required in original and copy:

  • Birth certificate (with translation).
  • Migratory documentation that accredits the condition in the country.
  • Academic record that can be presented with a simple translation.
  • CURP.
  • The amount of $31.00 pesos for the payment of Revalidation and/or Equivalency in the bank branch (it can be in any bank).
  • Budget for the payment of internet rent (explained below).

3The application and payment form must be filled out online to complete the process, as appropriate:

4Once the application and the payment form have been filled out, make the payment at the bank branch.

5Go to the offices with the documentation, the stamped payment form and the revalidation application.

Within approximately 30 days you will be notified by email of the issuance and resolution of the revalidation and a folio number, from the email: sincree@sep.gob.mx

7To pick up the revalidation documents, it is necessary to bring the folio number and the revalidation application with the signature of the interested party or legal representative with the seal of the General Directorate.

Procedure for upper education

1 The following documentation (original, copy, and translation) must be compiled prior to the accompaniment:

  • Birth certificate, equivalent document and/or letter of naturalization.
  • High school transcripts, revalidation or complete high school certificate.
  • Partial or complete high school certificate.
  • Academic record, Kardex or equivalent document.
  • Record of the request for equivalency, signed and signed by the interested party.
  • Bank receipt for payment of fees in the amount of $372.00.

2Make an appointment at Dirección General del Bachillerato Departamento de Incorporación, Revalidación y Equivalencias located at José María Rico No. 221 (Eje 8 sur), esquina calle Moras, puerta 2, edificio B, planta baja, col. Acacias, Alcaldía Benito Juárez, C.P. 03240, Mexico City. Likewise, please come during the hours of Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 hrs. 

In the context of the pandemic, after meeting all the requirements, an email should be sent to raul.huerta@dgb.sems.gob.mx requesting an appointment for the revalidation.

3The entrance to the facilities of the Dirección General del Bachillerato, must be done with an official ID, both users and accompanying persons.

4The next step is in building B, door 2, at the “Revalidation of Studies” window, where the documents are reviewed.

5Once the documents have been approved at the window, a form is handed out to pay the fee, which must be filled out with the following information: CURP, name and date of birth.

6 Subsequently, the “Solicitud de equivalencia de estudios para educación media superior” (https://siree.sep.gob.mx/siree/initSolicitudMedSup.do?idtiposolicitud=2&idnivel=2&idestado=9) must be filled out.

7Once the application has been filled out, it must be printed and the payment of $372.00 must be made at a bank branch.

8Finally, the proof of payment is presented at the window, along with the application and the user is given a notice to pick up the revalidation within 15 working days.

Procedure for higher education

Before the accompaniment, a collection of documents (original, copy and translation) will be made:

  • Birth certificate or equivalent document.
  • Birth certificate or equivalent document.
  • Certificate of studies being processed.
  • Degree or diploma of the studies being processed.
  • Present proof of payment of fees in the amount of $ 1, 118.00.​

2Make an appointment at the following address:

Departamento de Equivalencias y Revalidaciones, Avenida Universidad 1200, Col. Xoco, Alcaldía Benito Juárez, C.P. 03330, Mexico City, Monday through Friday from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs.

3When arriving at the Department of Equivalences and Revalidation, you can only enter with an identity document, both of the user and of the accompanying person (INE, passport, TVRH).

4 Once you have entered the place, you will be directed to the Window for Revalidation of Studies Abroad, which is located on the second floor. In this area the documents will be reviewed and the revalidation application form will be submitted, which can also be found at the following link  http://www.sep.gob.mx/work/models/sep1/Resource/12240/3/images/solicitud110517.pdf  

5The user will be assisted in filling out the application, if necessary. The application includes personal data, information about the studies completed and an e-mail in which the user will be notified if other information is required or if the process has been completed.

6 Subsequently, the application is submitted at the window and the form to make the payment is handed in. The form can also be found at the following link: http://www.sep.gob.mx/work/appsite/e5_ene12/dpa/hojaayuda.html?institucion=dgair 

7After obtaining the payment, the requested information is filled in and the payment is made in the amount of $1,117.00 at the nearest bank.

8Once the payment has been made, it is delivered to the corresponding window along with the documents. Finally, a folio is issued, which must be kept in order to pick up the document. The delivery time for the revalidation is approximately two months.

Refugees or persons with complementary protection who do not have official academic documents, may submit the following:

  • Original and/or copy of school records
  • Original and/or copy of the last proof of studies
  • Original and/or copy of immigration document
  • In case they do not have any of these, they can take an equivalency exam.

There is also the "Education Without Borders" program, under the National Institute for Adult Education of the Mexican Government, which aims to provide educational assistance to migrants, returned or repatriated nationals, asylum seekers, refugees, beneficiaries of complementary protection or foreigners living in Mexico, to learn to read and write or to start, continue, complete and certify primary and secondary education.
