Deportations in México

How do deportations work in Mexico?

Deportation is a sanction that is imposed after an administrative immigration process, which is usually carried out when the person is in immigration detention, either in a Migratory Detention Center or a Temporary Center.

During the process, the reasons for the person to be in Mexico and to stay in the country are investigated. Upon completion, deportation may be ordered if the person:

  • Entered Mexico irregularly or after being deported.
  • Presented herself as Mexican without having the nationality.
  • Has a background that compromises security.
  • Provided false information or apocryphal, altered or fraudulently obtained documents.
  • Failed to comply with an exit order.
  • In addition, she is prohibited from re-entering the country for certain years.

How does the deportation of minors work?

  • In the case of minors, they cannot currently be detained in Migratory Detention Centers or Temporary Centers, but must be taken to Comprehensive Care Centers.
  • Deportation proceedings respond to the minor´s particular circumstances.
