Rights of employees

  • Holiday: After on year of work you are entitled to a minimum of 6 days of paid vacations
  • Holiday Bonus: extra pay of at least 25% of the salary that corresponds to the vacation days
  • Christmas Box: receive at least 15 days worth your salary if you’ve been in the company for at least a year. Or if less than that, receive the bonus proportional to days worked
  • Social Security: all employees have the right to be incorporated to the Mexican Institute of Social Security
  • Rest day: you have the right to one rest day a week
  • Sunday bonus: If you do work on the day you’re supposed to rest, you must be awarded a 25% raise in salary for that day
  • Maternity leave: women have a right to paid leave for 聽6 weeks before and 6 weeks after having a baby. Additionally, they can’t perform jobs that can put their health, or that of their baby, at risk
  • Breastfeeding period: If the company has areas where you are allowed to feed the baby, you can take two half an hour breaks to do so. Otherwise, your work day is reduced by an hour, for a period of approximately 6 months.
  • Paternity leave: 5 rest days

The law protects you by establishing a minimum wage, which is the amount your employer should pay you for 8 hours of work; similarly, the law entitles you to certain benefits which your employer must provide and guarantee to everyone they employ including the following:
  • Work day, not exceeding 8 hours
  • Mandatory rest days
  • Vacations
  • Holiday bonus proportional to the time you’ve spent working for the company, if you worked a whole year from January to December it corresponds to 15 days
  • After ceasing to work there or being fired, you must receive a compensation or a settlement
  • Receive training

What is the minimum wage in Mexico?
  • The Mexican Constitution establishes that no one can earn less than the minimum wage. In 2019, 2 geographical areas were distinguished to adjust minimum wage according to the needs of each
  • The minimum wage in Mexico is generally $102.68 per day (work day of 8 hours)
  • In the free zone of the norther border, minimum wage is $176.72 per day (work day of 8 hours) as of 2019
