Prepare my trip to Mexico

What you need to know when you arrive at a Mexican airport 👉

  • If you are entering the country as an asylum seeker or as a tourist, you should have the reasons why you are entering the country and the amount of time you are looking to stay in Mexico, very clear in your mind. In case you want to stay in Mexico, we suggest that you not use what are commonly called “invitation letters”, due to the fact that it is more likely that you will be returned to your country of origin if you present these letters.
  • Keep in contact with SOMEONE in Mexico- be that a family member or a friend- that is aware of your entry into the country, because if you are detained by immigration authorities and this person has not heard from you in more than two hours, they have the right to present a complaint to the National Commission on Human Rights. This complaint can be carried out online or by phone.

The contact information for the National Commission on Human Rights: http://www.cndh.org.mx/Queja_Linea

Telephone number: (55) 56 81 81 25. Toll free number: 01800 715 2000

  • Your CONTACT PERSON must have on hand your itinerary, flight number, your full name and the passport numbers for everyone that is entering the country.
  • The National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) has the right to give any necessary information to your contact person regarding any previous investigation carried out by said organization.
  • In the case that the CNDH confirms that the people entering the country will be detained in an Immigration Detention Center (a detention center for immigrants who have not proven satisfactorily the reasons why they are entering Mexico), these immigrants have the right to approach an attorney or a civil society organization like Sin Fronteras, and we will help support you and assess what actions should be taken in your case.
