What happens if I am detained by the immigration authority at the airport?
It is important to know that, if you are detained, you have the right to
Obtain an identity document (an official document that shows who you are).
Scan official documents and save them in an email account.
Bring with you apostilles and legalizations of official documents.
Research if you need a visa in order to enter the country lawfully.
Find out about the consulates and embassies of your country of origin that are located in Mexico.
Locate shelters or organizations that can assist you. Some of these provide housing, food and medical assistance, while others provide legal assistance.
Find out what uniforms immigration and federal police use.
Know what your rights and obligations are.
If you would like to continue studying, obtain credit for studies you have already completed or if you want to study a profession in Mexico, you must bring all of your school certificates and diplomas with the applicable apostille or legalization documents. 聽
For child minors that are traveling with only one family member (mother/father/siblings/grandparents), we recommend you bring official documents with you that show that the parents or the other parent (the parent that is not traveling with the child) gives permission for the child to travel outside of the country where they were born. This is not a requirement but it is better to have this documentation just in case.
