Public Tranportation in Monterrey

There are several transportation options in Monterrey: 

*Buses.

The bus system covers most of the territory, the stops are not very well signposted.

Fare: cash $12.00 MXN, ordinary fair card (Tarjeta Feria Ordinaria) $11.50 MXN, Preferential Fair Card (Tarjeta Feria Preferente) $8.50 MXN.

*Metro

Called Metrorrey has 3 lines and you can only make one trip.

Price per trip: $4.50 MXN

You can only make one trip, but it is possible to transfer to the other lines in the same trip and you can only pay with MIA card.

The MIA card can be purchased at the vending machines located on Lines 1 and 2 of the Monterrey Collective Transportation System, which costs $20.00 MXN, plus the amount you wish to recharge. This can be done with coins and/or bills, has a limit of $500.00 MXN and the machine does not give change.

 

*Ecovia

Only has one route: Lincoln-Valle Soleado (Circuito Mitras Regina – Mitras direction), with 2 stops from Regina to Mitras. Operates all from 10:00 to 16:00 hours. Current fare: $15.05 MXN, preferential fare: $11.05 MXN, although the fare increases by 5 cents each month, so we recommend you check the agency’s official website for updated prices: http://ecovia.nl.gob.mx/about.html

 

*Metrobus

The purpose of this transportation is to allow people to transfer to and from the metro stations. There are 6 Metrobus routes and fares vary between $10.00 MXN and $12.00 MXN.

*Cabs

In the case of using local cabs, we recommend that you make sure they are using the taximeter, as they often do not use it and charge higher fares. Another safe option is ridesharing on web app transportation services.
